Stas Karpau: So, is there an obligation to love gay parades?

I didn't think I'd have to defend Pavel Seviarynets, writes Stas Karpau on his Facebook page.

To be honest, I never thought I would be Pavel Seviarynets' advocate, an advocate for «homophobia» and all that. But, since I've had an in-absentia discussion on the topic here, I'll speak out one more time.

I don't know how a person in our community of free speech warriors should express themselves to avoid backlash.

And I don't know why, when a person expresses their opinion—their opinion is immediately dressed in a fur coat called «forces,» boots called «doesn't allow,» a hat called «discriminates,» and then such a terrible monster is let out to play on the street, only to be given kicks later.

Seviarynets gave a two-hour interview. He spoke about many things there. And much could be debated. For example, his understanding of Belarusians, his understanding of Zianon, his understanding of Tsikhanouskaya, his understanding of virtue and asceticism, religiosity and Belarusian identity. But everyone was only interested in his personal (personal!) position on gay parades.

He wasn't asked what he thinks about the right of gays to exist, the right to a joint household, to marriage, to shared property, to the right to raise children.

He was asked about gay parades. And he said he was against gay parades. And you got upset.

Tell me, would you have wanted him to bullshit you about his attitude towards gay parades? And about what else? About Pazniak? About Tsikhanouskaya? Would you want him to bullshit through the entire interview?

By the way, did I miss the moment when a person acquired an obligation to love gay people and empathize with them? Is this written in the genetic code, in the constitution, on some tablets? Where is it written? Tell me the place so I can read it.

In what softer words can a person say that they are against gay parades? Or can a person not be against gay parades? Is Seviarynets the only person (out of several billion people who are against gay parades) who cannot be against gay parades?

Have you held a hell of a lot of gay parades, and now with Seviarynets' statement, the opportunity has closed?

I, for example, am generally against parades. Any parades. Should I receive rays of hatred from gays on one side and from tank drivers on the other?

I consider religiosity a flaw of consciousness. Am I allowed to say that?

I don't call for treating religious people. I stand for the right of religious people to create families and raise children. True, I don't like religious processions. And the slaughter of lambs in the streets. I wouldn't be against it if I never saw it.

Am I allowed to say this? Or am I not allowed to say this? Am I to say what you consider civilized and progressive? And if your set of 'correct' things changes — where can I read the list of approved items so as not to fall behind the trends?

Hello. Where can I read?
