"This is a colonial territory," believes the Russian Foreign Minister.

Greenland — an autonomous region of Denmark, which US President Donald Trump claims, — is not a natural part of the kingdom, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to him, Copenhagen's possession of this strategically important island is a result of colonization.
"Greenland was not originally part of either Denmark or Norway. It is a colonial territory. Although the inhabitants have grown accustomed to their situation and feel comfortable, the essence remains the same," Lavrov said at a press conference dedicated to summarizing the work of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
The minister also compared Greenland to Crimea in terms of the significance of these territories: "Crimea is no less important for the security of the Russian Federation than Greenland is for the United States." According to him, a referendum was held in Crimea before its annexation by Moscow, while in Greenland "no one conducted any negotiations with the population: Trump simply stated that this territory is needed for US security." Such a framing of the issue does not comply with the principles approved by the UN General Assembly, added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
