Ex-wife of Russian billionaire committed suicide in pre-trial detention center. She blamed her husband for her death
32-year-old Aliya Galitskaya, the ex-wife of former top manager of "Alfa-Bank" and founder of the venture capital fund Almaz Capital, Alexander Galitsky, committed suicide in the temporary detention facility in Istra.

The tragedy occurred a day after the court arrested her on charges of extorting a colossal sum from her ex-husband.
As human rights activist Eva Merkacheva reported, Aliya was alone in her cell in the temporary detention facility. The woman left a suicide note in which she directly blamed her billionaire ex-husband for her death.
The conflict between the ex-husband and wife escalated dramatically after their divorce in March 2025. It was alleged that Aliya demanded $150 million from Galitsky, threatening to publish compromising material about the businessman. As a result, she was thrown into a temporary detention center.
The couple has two daughters. "I don't know how he will live with this, how he will explain to the child why his mother ended up in custody and then took her own life there," wrote human rights activist Eva Merkacheva.
Alexander Galitsky is known as a major player in the venture investment market and a former member of the board of directors of "Alfa-Bank", who left his position in 2022 after sanctions were imposed against Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven.
