A 9‑meter long fin whale was found in shallow water near the marina. The body of the female whale was lifted onto the pier with the help of a crane. Veterinarians were unable to find any damage characteristic of collisions with vessels on it, writes the publication Need To Know.

The animal weighed as much as 6.5 tons.
Tissue samples from the whale were sent to St. Paul's University and Complutense University in Madrid to determine the cause of death. After that, the fin whale's body was transported to a waste incineration plant, where it was cremated.

The fin whale is the second largest animal in the world after the blue whale; it can reach 27 meters in length. These cetaceans live in all oceans and usually avoid coastal waters. Fin whales are currently an endangered species.
