Paving stones found under asphalt in Grodno were laid in Soviet times
The paving stones found under a layer of asphalt on the territory of the New Castle in Grodno turned out not to be very old: they date back to the 1950s, that is, already to Soviet times, reported the Grodno TV and Radio Company.

Oleg Shymbaretsky, the chief architect of the reconstruction project for the territory of the historical and archaeological museum in Grodno Castle, reported that the paving stones were laid by Soviet builders during the reconstruction of the New Castle into the Communist Party's regional committee building.
This road surface turned out to be of low quality: the stones are wobbly, there are soil settlements, and under the paving stones lies only sand without any compaction.
Therefore, most of these paving stones were decided to be dismantled, as they do not meet durability requirements. Only some fragments, for example, from the side of Davyd Haradzenski street, will remain, while the area next to the Neman will be completely cleared.
