Aliaksandr Bigel, a resident of Minsk, is 44 years old. In 2005, he graduated from the Engineering and Economic Faculty of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.
After that, the man built a successful career in IT: he developed services for GPS tracking and mobile applications, and created games for Android. Since 2018, Aliaksandr has worked for the Lithuanian company Altabel Group, where he rose to team lead and architect. He worked on cloud platforms for clinical research and medical software.
Aliaksandr Bigel was detained last autumn.
He was tried in the Minsk City Court under several articles of the Criminal Code: Part 1 of Article 368 (insulting Lukashenka), Part 1 of Article 130 (inciting hatred), and Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 (facilitating extremist activity). According to human rights defenders, he was sentenced to one and a half years in a penal colony.
It appears that Aliaksandr's prosecution is related to online comments and the transfer of information to the «Belaruski Hayun» project.
Recently, in Gomel, Aliaksandr's colleague, Altabel's senior developer Andrei Kulikou, was convicted in the Hayun case.
