Short-haul aircraft Sukhoi SuperJet-100 (SSJ-100), which disappeared from the radar after a demonstration flight in Indonesia on May 9, was found out to have crashed into the vertical flank of Salak Mountain. The wreckage was found on a hillside at an altitude of 1.6 km during the search operation; some wreck fell down. The bodies of the dead were found as well.
The Indonesian authorities set up an operational headquarters near the site of the crash. At present, search for the fragments of the crashed aircraft and the flight recorders has already been launched, RIA Novosti.
Judging by the images taken at the crash site of the SSJ-100, only a few dozens of meters were left for the aircraft to get over the mountain, the height of which is about two km. The plane crashed into a mountain not in its highest point.
According to Telegraf, Sukhoi SuperJet-100, carrying out a demonstration flight near Jakarta on May 9 in the framework of the tour to six countries in Asia, failed to return to the airfield at the appointed time. In the area of Salak Mountain, contact with the board was lost. The plane asked for permission to drift down from 10 to 6 th ft. After receiving permission, the plane turned right and began to move downwards, after which it disappeared from radar screens and communication with him was lost.
There were 44 people aboard, including crew members - citizens of Russia and five other countries.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev set up a commission to investigate the incident with the wreckage of Sukhoi SuperJet-100. It is headed by Deputy Industry and Trade Ministry Yuri Slusar and is composed of representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the United Aircraft Corporation, which owns Sukhoi holding.
