Belarus Has a Chance to Finally Get an Original Issue of Grand Duchy of Lithuania Statute
One of the 60 remaining copies of the Statute is sold by a Moscow auction.
Belarus has an opportunity to bring back one of the most prominent historical artifact — an original issue of the 1588 Statute of Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The Statute was put up on an auction in Moscow. The initial price for the lot is $45k.
Mahiliou History Museum initiated fund raising to buy the lot.
The auction holder requires 10% of a total sum within 2 days to take the item out of the auction. The rest of the sum is to be paid within 3 months.
Aliaksiej Baciukou, the Chief of Mahiliou History Museum, told that there are around 60 copies of the Statute — one of the first Europe’s and world’s constitutions— remained. One of them is kept in the UK, 11 in Russia, Lithuania and Poland have six copies each, but Belarus does not possess any of them.
