Even the National Bank is eager to cooperate.
It took few days to raise funds for a national treasure. There is a hope now that Belarus may receive its first copy of the Statute of Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
“We raised Br 22mn (ca. $2,700) within 3 days: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Furthermore, a private person agreed to pay a necessary deposit. The National Bank of Belarus offered its help and the talks are underway now,” says the Chief of Mahiliou History Museum Aliaksiej Baciukou.
As it was reported before, Belarus got an opportunity to bring back one of the most prominent historical artifact — an original issue of the 1588 Statute of Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The Statute was put up on an auction in Moscow. The initial price for the lot is $45k.
Mahiliou History Museum initiated fund raising to buy the lot.
The auction holder requires 10% of a total sum within 2 days to take the item out of the auction. The rest of the sum is to be paid within 3 months.
Aliaksiej Baciukou, the Chief of Mahiliou History Museum, told that there are around 60 copies of the Statute — one of the first Europe’s and world’s constitutions— remained. One of them is kept in the UK, 11 in Russia, Lithuania and Poland have six copies each, but Belarus does not possess any of them.
