They criticize his calling to participate in parliament elections.
A Narodnaja Volja’s journalist called his article “Shock: Statkievich’s Team to Participate in Elections.” Charter’97 republished it as a topic of the day.
“It’s a weird situation: while several parties set political prisoners release their main condition for participation in parliament elections and otherwise promise to boycott them, the imprisoned Mikalaj Statkievich’s party is rejecting the boycott,” says the article.
Mr. Statkievich is unlikely to have any ‘illusions’ regarding the upcoming elections. This is his position. He considered adopting Lukashenka’s rules of game the way to show people an alternative even in 1999. The big opposition rallies in 2006 and 2010 would have been impossible without Milinkievich, Sannikau and Statkievich, who acted in spite of anything. And those rallies gave the people hope: we are still strong, we do not give up.
Narodnaja Volia’s article sometimes soun ridiculous. “It is something so controversial and strange. Especially if we remember that only Statkievich — out of all political prisoners — could comment on policy in his letters.” The author is making an obvious hint.
The wife of Mr. Statkievich is rudely compared with Nadezhda Krupskaya. As it is said, let the God keep you away from such ‘happiness.’
