A 21-year-old man from North Carolina was taken in custody over a Twitter threat to kill Barack Obama, CNN says.
Donte Jarmar Sims wrote about his intention to assassinate the President of the United States during the Democratic National Convention, The Raw Story reports.
Sim’s Monday tweets read: “Well Ima Assassinate president Obama this evening !… Gotta get this monkey off my chest while he’s in town.” “The Secret Service is gonna be defenseless once I aim the Assault Rifle at Barack’s forehead… F* the #DNC,” he added.”
The man was taken into custody for his messages on Wednesday.
Sims denied he was a terrorist. However, he said he hated Obama and also was high on marijuana when posted the messages.
Sims’ initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday. He may face maximum 5 years’ imprisonment and $250,000 fine.
