According to The New York Times, this happened after Zelensky arrived in Washington on August 18 with several European leaders to convince Trump of the dangers of compromising with Russia.
During the conversation, Trump remarked that during his time as owner of the "Miss Universe" pageant, his Ukrainian contestants were very beautiful. Zelensky playfully responded that he himself married one of the beautiful Ukrainian women.
Trump stated that his friend, Las Vegas magnate Phil Ruffin, married former "Miss Ukraine" Oleksandra Nikolaenko, whom Trump himself introduced him to at the pageant.
