White House threatens to prosecute crew of seized tanker in US. Moscow confirmed Russians are on board
The situation surrounding the seizure of the Marinera tanker (formerly Bella 1) is becoming increasingly serious. The White House has officially announced its readiness to transfer the vessel's crew to the United States for trial. In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Russian citizens are on board.

Shot of the Marinera tanker's seizure
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated at a briefing that the vessel's arrest was carried out by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security in coordination with the military. She confirmed that the vessel was detained in the North Atlantic in the morning after prolonged tracking. The basis was a US federal court order.
"This president will not tolerate it"
The White House representative emphasized the new administration's firm stance:
"This was a vessel from Venezuela's shadow fleet carrying sanctioned oil. And the United States of America, under this President, will not tolerate this."
She separately addressed the fate of the sailors. According to the press secretary, the court order applies not only to the tanker itself but also to the people.
"This means that the crew is now subject to prosecution for any violations of federal law. And if necessary, they will be brought to the United States for such legal proceedings," Leavitt stated.
Washington claims that the vessel was sailing under a "false flag" and does not de jure belong to any country.
Moscow's Reaction and British Involvement
The Russian Foreign Ministry officially confirmed the presence of Russians on the seized vessel. The department demands "strict observance of the rights and interests of Russians on the 'Marinera' and not to hinder their return to their homeland." Diplomats noted that they are closely monitoring reports of Americans boarding the vessel.
The seizure operation took place with the support of allies. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that, at the request of the USA, it provided intelligence data and its infrastructure for intercepting the sanctions violator.
