The man fell from the window of his seventh-floor apartment. Police found a chair placed against the window and medication in the trash can in his apartment. There was also a neighbor in the apartment who only spoke Russian. He was in a state of shock, and it is unknown if he witnessed the incident. He was taken to the hospital under escort.
The suicide theory is being considered. Le Figaro writes that the journalist might have been subjected to threats from Russia.
Russian journalist Denis Balashov writes that the journalist in question is Yevgeny Safronov. He moved abroad before the start of the full-scale war because the media outlet where he worked was declared a "foreign agent".
