MFA: Vilnius is not engaging in dialogue regarding the truck situation
The Belarusian side has repeatedly attempted to resolve the issue with trucks bearing Lithuanian registration through political and diplomatic means, but Vilnius has not engaged in dialogue. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta following a meeting between Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and Lithuanian and Polish carriers, BelTA reports .
According to the Deputy Minister, over four months numerous attempts were made to resolve this problem through political and diplomatic means. "But for some reason, Vilnius has considered and continues to consider any contacts at the political level as its own defeat. We shared these conclusions and assumptions with representatives of other Western states. But they do not understand what the defeat consists of. If there's a problem at the border, it needs to be solved, and neighbors will probably handle it directly, perhaps best of all," said Igor Sekreta.
"We are not opportunists; we have lived, earned, and maintained very good relations for decades. And for the sake of some short-term conjuncture, just because Lithuania currently has such an intractable government that does not engage in contact, we do not want to lose what is most valuable - human contacts, connections, business. Ordinary people understand everything. Today, out of desperation, they spoke about not receiving compensation and that their governments would not help them. Therefore, their hope is in the Belarusian government, that it will make a decision that will allow them to return to normal activities, to conduct business for the benefit of the peoples: both Belarusians, Lithuanians, and Poles," added the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
