Such a move would be a first in history for a sitting president, as traditionally US banknotes featured the signatures of the Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasurer, not the President.

The US Treasury Department plans to place the signature of the sitting US President Donald Trump on all new paper banknotes, AP reports.
Such a move would be a first in history for a sitting president, as traditionally US paper currency featured the signatures of the Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasurer, not the President.
These plans, as noted by AP, coincide with efforts to place Trump's image on a coin, which also drew criticism, as federal law prohibits the depiction of a living president on American currency.
The Treasury Department states that the plan to place Trump's signature on all new paper banknotes is aimed at commemorating the country's 250th anniversary, and that the banknotes will also feature the signature of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Bessent noted in his statement that "there is no more significant way to honor the historical achievements of our great country" than by issuing dollar banknotes with Trump's name.
