The German Chancellor sharply criticized Donald Trump's actions in the Middle East.
"What Trump is doing now is not de-escalation or an attempt to find a peaceful solution, but a large-scale escalation with an uncertain outcome. This is an already threatening escalation that concerns not only the direct participants, but all of us," he said.
Merz also expressed doubt that Washington's stated goal of regime change in Tehran could be achieved.
"Is regime change the real goal? If it is the goal, I don't believe they will achieve it. In the past, such attempts most often ended in failure," Handelsblatt quoted the politician as saying.
