Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya says she constantly maintains contact with partners in the US and calls on them not to exert pressure on EU countries to ease sanctions against Belarus, reports BNS.
"We constantly communicate with American partners and urge them not to put pressure on EU countries, first and foremost Lithuania, for these countries to lift European sanctions," Tsikhanouskaya told reporters in the Seimas on Monday.
"Everyone understands that if, for example, sanctions regarding potash fertilizers are lifted, it will only strengthen the regime, provide more funds for repression and the war in Ukraine," she added.
Tsikhanouskaya also called on European partners to remain consistent and not to copy President Trump's policy towards Lukashenka, after the EU imposed sanctions against Minsk for assisting Russia in the war against Ukraine.
"President Trump has enough influence to help Belarusians free all political prisoners. But we ask Europeans to keep strong cards for more important steps, because the release of political prisoners is our priority, however, our task is to free the entire country," she said.
