Residents of Valozhyn District Protest Against Chyzh Bacon Farm
Local residents suspect the farm that is being built by Juryj Chyzh to violate sanitary normsr.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka said he would not tolerate using arable lands for purposes other than agriculture in his Address to the Nation
However, in Valozhyn district a bacon farm is being built on such land. Local residents consider the farm to be built illegally and environmentally unfriendly.
A construction site of a bacon farm with 110,000 head capacity is placed on a rape field, the soil dug out during the construction is dumped on the other, this time wheat field.
The local residents are worried that the new farm will take over the lands of other farming sites and people may lose their jobs.
The ecology factor is also among the reasons against building. The farm is said to be built according a Danish technology with only a kilometer sanitary zone in spite of big farm size. Many houses stand within the defined sanitary zone.
However, the whole region’s ecology may suffer, say the dwellers, as the farm is only 5 km away from Nalibocki forest, the biggest Belarusian forest and a natural reservation.
Valozhyn District Executive Committee representatives said that the construction is performed by Triple, an enterprise owned by Juryj Chyzh.
It should be mentioned, that Jurij Chyzh, a famous Belarusian entrepreneur, and his company Triple is currently on the black list in Europe for funding the regime of Lukashenka.
