Poland does not plan to carry out large investment projects in Belarus.
Poland does not plan to carry out large investment projects in Belarus, Wieslaw Pokladek, saisd the head of the trade and investment department at the Polish embassy in Minsk.
Polish businesspeople believe that investing in the Belarusian economy would be too risky, Mr. Pokladek explained. However, small investment projects are going well, he added.
Companies involving Polish capital are being established in Belarus, but in much smaller numbers than in 2010, for instance, Mr. Pokladek said.
According to him, Belarus received $15.8 million in foreign direct investment from Poland in 2011.
Further liberalization of the Belarusian economy would help Belarus draw in more investment from Poland and other countries, he said.
Mr. Pokladek predicted that the establishment of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia would lead to an increase in Polish investment in the Belarusian economy. However, Polish companies are waiting for the Customs Union to evolve into a properly functioning common economic area, he said.
