Cobbled streets and squares: Minsk had them. Not as many as Italian or German towns, but anyway. However, today cobbled Minsk streets may be seen only on old photos or video footages.
Minsk after the WWII became a true triumph of monumental Soviet architecture. Pompous Stalin’s Empire style swallowed old blocks. Cobbled streets vanished together with them: best cobblestones were used as bricks; other got hidden under thick layer of asphalt.
As a result, pedestrians may enjoy only few cobbled streets in Minsk that remained untouched hitherto.
Undoubtedly, drivers and high-heeled ladies appreciate flat asphalt, but numerous streets definitely lack their cobbled spirit.
