He justified this by stating that Landry understands "how important Greenland is to our national security, and he will strongly advocate for our country's interests."
Denmark, to which Greenland belongs, reacted with indignation to Trump's repeated claims to the island. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen called the appointment of a special envoy "completely unacceptable." The Danish government summoned the American ambassador in Copenhagen to express its protest, writes Bild.
Even during his first presidential term, Trump expressed his desire to annex Greenland. The Republican cited arguments of national and "international security." Greenland and Denmark firmly reject these claims.
