At the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin, "contact took place between representatives of the Russian and United States administrations," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, writes BBC.

"There was such a phone contact. We agreed to continue the dialogue," Peskov said. According to him, Assistant to the President Yuri Ushakov participated in the conversation from the Russian side, and "there were several interlocutors" from the American side.

Putin instructed Ushakov to contact Washington after the report of his special representative Kirill Dmitriev, who met with an American delegation in Florida last weekend and discussed the American plan to end the war in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, December 24, Peskov said that Dmitriev "had the opportunity to report to the president on the results of his trip in all its nuances."

Now the Kremlin spokesman stated: "After Kirill Dmitriev reported to the president on the results of his trip to America, on the results of his contacts with the Americans, this information was analyzed, and at the instruction of President Putin, contact took place between representatives of the administrations of Russia and the United States. It was agreed to continue the dialogue."

Peskov refused to answer a question about the essence of the issues discussed with the US authorities. According to him, the dissemination of this information could negatively affect the progress of the negotiation process.

On Friday morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a meeting with US President Donald Trump "in the near future." According to Axios, it could take place on Sunday, December 28, at Trump's private residence in Florida.
