"Real-time data show that Iran is currently in a state of nationwide internet shutdown; the incident occurred after a series of increasing digital censorship measures aimed at protests across the country, and it obstructs the public's right to communicate at a critical moment," the publication states.
The communication shutdown in Iran occurred amid large-scale mass protests, which have not ceased in the country for twelve days already.
The complete blocking of the internet significantly complicates the dissemination of information, communication between citizens, and the work of independent sources, making the situation in this country even more closed off to the outside world.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington would deliver a "very powerful blow" to Iran if security forces started killing people. According to various estimates, a total of approximately 40 people have already died during street protests in Iran, and thousands more people have been detained.
