The day before, an emotional story widely spread across social networks and media. A resident of Baranavichy rescued a kitten that someone had sealed in a three-liter jar and discarded near garbage containers.
The story, which happened back in October, was reported by the Baranavichy state publication «Nash Kray» (Our Land), and republished by other media outlets.
Now, «Nash Kray» has removed the material from its website. Following the article link now opens a page with the message «Element not found!»
Police checked this information, according to their Telegram channel.
It is noted that during a conversation with the alleged heroine of the story, it turned out that the woman did not confirm key details reported in the media. She could not name the veterinary clinic she allegedly contacted, nor could she precisely indicate where and under what circumstances her pet appeared.
A check of all possible veterinary institutions also did not reveal any record of such a case. The police stated: the fact of cruel treatment of an animal was not confirmed.
The Telegram channel «Обратная сторона» (The Other Side) called this story a hoax created for hype and to attract an audience.
