Renowned entrepreneur and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stated that he regrets "every minute" spent with financier Jeffrey Epstein, but denies the accusations against him that appeared in Epstein's draft emails, published by US authorities.

In an interview with Australian TV channel 9News, Gates said that he sincerely apologizes for having communicated with Epstein.
"I regret every minute I spent with him, and I apologize," the multimillionaire said.
According to him, the focus at the time was on Epstein having extensive contacts among very wealthy people and promising to attract their money to global health projects. However, Gates now admits that it was a dead end and a serious mistake.
The reason for the new statements was nearly three million pages of documents published by the US Department of Justice. Among them were found draft emails from Epstein, in which he claimed to have had a close and compromising relationship with Gates.
Gates himself categorically rejects these claims, emphasizing that the letters were never sent and are fictitious. He suggested that Epstein might have deliberately tried to compromise him.
In one of the 2013 drafts, Epstein accused Gates of extramarital affairs and made a series of scandalous statements. A representative for Gates called these documents evidence of Epstein's frustration and his readiness to go to extreme lengths to discredit the prominent businessman.
Gates' ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, admitted in an NPR interview that the publication of the documents brought her back to very painful moments in her marriage. She noted that all unresolved issues should be explained by those concerned, including her ex-husband. Melinda had previously stated that Gates' ties to Epstein influenced her decision to divorce him in 2021.
Gates reported that he first met Epstein in 2011, already after Epstein had pleaded guilty to crimes involving minors. For three years, he attended dinners with him, but, according to him, he never visited Epstein's private island and did not have sexual contact there.
"I was a fool for spending time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him," Bill Gates repents.
Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019 in a New York prison, where he was under investigation on charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. However, none of the prominent people mentioned in the materials were officially charged, and all of them deny their involvement in Epstein's crimes.
