From March 1st, a ban on pike fishing will come into effect in most Belarusian regions. As reported by the State Inspectorate for Animal and Plant Life Protection, the restriction will be valid until April 15th and is related to the start of spring spawning.

During this period, fish are particularly vulnerable, so catching them can harm the population.
The ban from March 1st to April 15th applies to Brest, Gomel, Grodno, Mogilev, and Minsk regions. In the Vitebsk region, the dates are slightly different — from March 9th to April 23rd.
If a pike accidentally gets caught in a net or on a hook during the ban, it must be immediately released back into the same water where it was caught.
Administrative liability is provided for violating the rules. Fines range from 10 to 30 basic units, which is equivalent to an amount from 450 to 1350 Belarusian rubles.
