Pope Leo XIV Displeased That Priests Prepare Sermons Using Artificial Intelligence

Pope Leo XIV expressed dissatisfaction that some Catholic priests are using artificial intelligence to prepare sermons. During a closed meeting with the clergy of the Diocese of Rome, he urged them not to succumb to the temptation of entrusting such work to AI, reports The Vatican News.

According to the pontiff, although technology can create texts, it cannot replace a living priest and his personal experience of faith. The Pope emphasized that a sermon is not just words, but a testimony and sharing of Christian faith, which a machine cannot do. He compared intelligence to muscles: if they are not used, they lose form.

Additionally, the pontiff warned priests about the danger of equating social media with real life. In his opinion, likes and followers do not constitute a true spiritual connection.

At the same time, the Vatican is simultaneously developing its own artificial intelligence system for translating liturgical texts in real-time into dozens of languages. Thus, a certain contradiction arises between the desire to preserve tradition and the use of modern technologies.
