Mikita Berazhkou, former press attaché of HC Dinamo and son of ex-Pressbol editor, sentenced for political reasons

Mikita recently lived in Moscow, where he worked for seven years at MatchTV.

The Minsk City Court handed down a verdict to 40-year-old Mikita Berazhkou, a person well-known in sports circles.

He is the son of Uladzimir Berazhkou — the legendary editor-in-chief of "Pressbol" who headed the newspaper from 1995-2014, and in 2015 was sent to a pre-trial detention center on corruption charges. At that time, he was the general director of Minsk HC Dinamo. After his release, Uladzimir Berazhkou worked at the Belarusian Football Federation, at "SB. Belarus Today", and at the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus.

Mikita also pursued a career in the sports field. He worked as a press attaché for Minsk HC Dinamo, and soon after his father's arrest, moved to Russia. There he worked for seven years as a producer for the sports channel MatchTV.

At one time, he was a laureate of the International Sports Film Festival "Atlant".

It is unknown when a criminal case was opened against Mikita Berazhkou or if he was held in a pre-trial detention center.

Berazhkou Jr. was accused of "facilitating extremist activity" (Part 1, Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code). Hundreds of people detained in the Hayun case are being tried under this article, but it is unclear if Mikita faced the same accusation.

The sports producer was sentenced to restriction of freedom at home.
