Eleventh-grader from a Minsk school committed suicide

It is known that the deceased child lived in one of the villages in the Minsk suburb. That's where he took his own life. Everything happened last weekend — February 14-15.

— It's true, yes, such a tragedy occurred, — said Olga Astashova, Deputy Director for Educational Work, without hiding the fact.

— I cannot tell you because an investigation is currently underway. But the reason there is somewhat different. Of course, there's a complex of factors, meaning one cannot say that one single thing was the cause.

The head teacher speaks well of the boy's family, saying it cannot be called dysfunctional.

— You see, every child and every case is individual. But I want to tell you that this is not about any bullying... The child simply couldn't cope with a certain situation. This is the 11th grade... — added the school administration representative.

According to the deputy director, psychologists are currently working with high school students, including specialists from the Republican Center for Psychological Assistance.

— We will work closely with the parents of the 11th-grade parallel classes, yes. With all others — on an application basis, — the head teacher noted. — This means, if you need to talk — come, we will provide assistance. Our specialists are working. It's possible that somewhere, as you understand, we will have certain commitments now, yes. But in any case, we will give attention to everyone who needs it.

Neither the Investigative Committee, nor the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor other official structures have reported on what happened.

Earlier, "Zerkalo," citing internal documents from the education departments of two regions, wrote about the increase in suicides among minors. The Prosecutor General's Office also named suicide as one of the main causes of child deaths.

By order of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, a "Portrait of a minor who committed suicide" was even created. According to it, more than half of cases (51.4%) of suicides among minors occur among teenagers aged 15-17, and another 28.6% among children aged 10 to 14. At the same time, an equal number of boys and girls die.
