The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a statement in which it threatens to declare a boycott due to the admission of Belarus and Russia with their flag and anthem. The department called on other countries to skip the opening ceremony of the 2026 Paralympics. Four Belarusians and six Russians were admitted to the Games. They will appear at the competitions with state symbols.

"The decision to admit Russia and Belarus to the Paralympic Games under national flags is outrageous. It humiliates the Paralympic community and all of Ukraine, undermining trust in international sports.
We call on the International Paralympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of the Games to reconsider the decision on the admission of Russians and Belarusians under national symbols. We expect a ban on the state symbols of Russia and Belarus at the Paralympics. We ask partners to act principledly.
If this shameful decision is not reconsidered, Ukrainian officials will not go to the Paralympic Games. We will not attend the opening ceremony. We will also not attend other official events. We call on representatives of the governments of the countries of the free world not to attend the opening ceremony and other events within the framework of the Paralympic Games. Ukraine will continue to work on all international platforms to restore justice. We defend fair sport. We defend the dignity of people," reads the text of the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on social media.
It became known earlier this week that four Belarusian and six Russian athletes will be able to compete under their national flags at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Four Belarusian quotas are assigned to cross-country skiing. Russia received two spots each in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding.
The Paralympics will be held from March 6 to 15 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Athletes will compete in six sports in two categories: snow sports (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, and snowboarding) and ice sports (sledge hockey and wheelchair curling).
During the 2022 Paralympics (March 4-13, 2022), Belarusian and Russian athletes were suspended from competitions due to the start of the full-scale war. Moreover, they were suspended just one day before the start of the competitions.
