A Minsk Resident Told How He Almost Became an Accomplice to Telephone Scammers
A 59-year-old Minsk resident, who became a victim of scammers and almost became their accomplice, contacted the police.
Deceived by the "intercom replacement" scheme, the man believed that the criminals had put his car up for sale. To "save" the car, he had to pawn it himself and take the money to a neighboring country "for declaration", reports "Minsk Police".
Having received 17 thousand dollars for it, at the instruction of the curator, he met with an elderly Minsk resident, also took a package with cash from her, and went abroad by train.
Realizing on the way what was happening, he returned home and told everything to the police officers.
Detectives established that the package was handed over to the Minsk resident by a 75-year-old "colleague", who had also been deceived by the criminals. Under threat of criminal liability, she became a courier and collected more than 10 thousand dollars from two other victims.
All the money will be returned to its rightful owners.
