Kaja Kallas: Europe tried to dissuade Trump from conflict with Iran, but US didn't consult with EU

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated in an interview with Reuters that the US and Israel started a war against Iran without consulting Europe, despite attempts by European leaders to dissuade them from escalation.

According to Kaja Kallas, EU countries were not involved in the decision-making and even tried to persuade Washington not to start the conflict.

She emphasized that Europe does not always understand the actions of the US, especially given Donald Trump's unpredictable policies, but has already gotten used to all this and reacts to his actions more calmly than before.

Kallas called for an immediate end to the war, noting that conflicts are easy to start but very difficult to finish. The EU is currently holding consultations with Middle Eastern countries, including Gulf states, Jordan, and Egypt, to find a diplomatic solution that would allow all sides to exit the situation without losing face.

She drew particular attention to the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran is partially blocking. This is already affecting Europe through rising energy prices. European countries are not ready to risk their military personnel in this region and prefer diplomatic means.

As a possible model for resolving the problem, Kallas suggested using the example of the "grain deal," which allowed Ukraine to safely export products through the Black Sea even after the start of the war with Russia. According to her, the UN is already working on similar options, but much depends on the position of Iran and neighboring countries.

Overall, the EU aims to act as a mediator and help stop the conflict without getting involved in military actions.
