Alexander Lukashenka, welcoming US President's special envoy John Kohl in Minsk, hinted to him about the opening of a direct air connection between Belarus and the USA.
«It's as if you didn't have a long journey. Everyone is cheerful. I am very glad that you are in a good mood and look cheerful. This, John, is probably because you flew to friends first, and not directly to Belarus. It's time to fly directly to us already», he said, as reported by his press service.
«Yes, that would be very good», Kohl replied.
Discussions about a direct air connection with the USA were ongoing before the introduction of sanctions and COVID. Minsk Airport even underwent reconstruction of its runway.
