Belarus Free Theatre finished its two days’ part at Globe to Globe festival in London. The banned-in-Belarus theatre staged its interpretation of King Lear.

Dominic Dromgoole, Globe’s Artistic Director, called the Belarusian version “the most precise reading of the play he has ever seen.”
Mikalaj Khaliezin, the director of Belarus Free Theatre, says that “it is much easier to write something yourself than to try to abridge Shakespeare.
“It was a challenge for the theatre and we succeeded. However, it was only one challenge of many, and thus we are still ready to do another, actual theatre.”
Natallia Kakinada, the producer of Belarus Free Theatre said that “it is a benchmark for Belarusian art its art as Shakespeare spoke Belarusian on its own stage.”
Free Belarus Theatres’ performance was attended by Tom Stoppard, Carol Churchill, Mark Ravenhill.
