Lithuanian Foreign Ministry: EU not even discussing lifting sanctions on Belarus
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania stated that there are no discussions in the European Union regarding the softening of sanctions against Belarus. The ministry noted that the United States' decision to lift sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers is an independent step by Washington and is not related to the EU's sanctions policy, reports LRT.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that all reasons for which the European Union imposed sanctions against Belarus remain relevant. These include internal repression, undermining democracy, using migration as an instrument of pressure, supporting Russia in its aggression against Ukraine, and hybrid attacks.
The ministry acknowledged that the release of political prisoners is an important diplomatic step, but Lithuania's position remains unchanged: the actions of the Belarusian authorities continue to pose a serious threat to the security of Lithuania, the European Union, and NATO.
On December 13, 123 political prisoners were released and expelled from Belarus. Nine of them left through Lithuanian territory, the rest — through Ukraine. Among those released are such well-known figures as Ales Bialiatski, Viktar Babaryka, Maria Kalesnikava, Maksim Znak, Aliaksandr Fiaduta, and others.
