Trump noted that in such a case, control over the Strait of Hormuz could be divided between the American side and the Iranian authorities.
The American president added that the US would like to influence the selection of Iran's new leader. He drew a parallel with Venezuela and noted that he has several candidates but did not reveal them. At the same time, the politician emphasized that representatives of Iran's current government do not satisfy the US.
These statements came after the US suspended strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and began peace talks with Tehran. According to Trump, the parties are discussing a complete end to the conflict.
According to media reports, a new round of negotiations could take place soon in Pakistan. There is also information that the US expects to end the war in early April.
