Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke about her first meeting with Maria Kalesnikava — it took place during the filming of the New Year's address.
«Masha came for the filming of the New Year's address, and for me personally, it was very important to record it together. We met one-on-one for the first time in five and a half years.
Masha is just as energetic and inspiring — nothing has broken her inner world. I am very glad that we had time to be together.
We talked about the past, present, and future. We talked about political prisoners. Masha went through the horrors of prison — and is determined to fight for the release of all others.
I also asked her: has she already played the flute since her release? Masha admitted that she is worried about this, as she hasn't picked up her favorite instrument yet. I told her that I very much hope to attend her solo concert someday, perhaps in Germany, but even better — in Belarus.»
