Ukrainian white tiger evacuated from war to UK. Now awaiting an appropriately sized carrier

A white tiger named Alex will be moved from an animal rescue shelter near Kyiv to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in eastern England, BBC reported , according to the park's management.

Alex was found abandoned last year in the Kharkiv region. He currently lives at the "Wildlife Rescue Center" in Chubynske, Kyiv Oblast.

Steve Nichols, CEO of Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, said the tiger is kept in a "concrete box with straw on the floor," but that's the most volunteers at the shelter can provide. "The poor people are barely managing to keep the water from freezing," he noted. "We are so acutely aware that we cannot influence that side of the process."

According to Nichols, his zoo has completed all the paperwork for transporting the animal to the United Kingdom, and now it only remains to deliver a special container for his transportation. "We are now at the stage where we just need to get the dimensions of the container so that we can arrange the vehicle and the date of transport," he explained.

From Ukraine, the tiger will travel through Poland and the countries of Northern Europe to the English port of Dover, and from there to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. "I would say he'll be on his way within three weeks," the director added.

According to information from the zoo, when the tiger was found unattended, he was emaciated, dehydrated, and infested with parasites. He was also found to have problems with his liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract.

Nichols promises that in England, the animal will be able to "live in luxury" instead of "waking up with ice on his fur."

Upon arrival, he will undergo a three-stage adaptation process. First, the tiger will be housed in an indoor enclosure with space for sleeping, playing, and feeding. Later, under the supervision of veterinarians, he will be able to move to an outdoor enclosure, and then get acquainted with other tigers in the park.
