"The team's goals are as follows: win the championship, the Cup, and the Super Cup, and also qualify for the group stage of one of the European cups," said Artem Leonov.
He also commented on rumors about the salary of last year's best player in the country, Valery Gromyko, who signed a contract with "ML Vitebsk" after leaving Kazakhstan's "Kairat," supposedly earning 1.5 million rubles.
"Apparently, they think that if a footballer's value on Transfermarkt is 1.5 million rubles [a website that estimates the potential value of footballers — NN], then he should earn that much. But seriously, of course, the amount does not correspond to reality, because Gromyko's terms are roughly the same as those of our other leaders," Leonov said.
Earlier, he spoke about salaries at the club: "About 30% of our players receive a salary of $300-500. In fact, there are not many highly paid people — these are Zakhar Volkov and Aleksandar Mesarović. There are a few players who receive about $10,000. We have three such players." He was referring to Volkov and the Serb Mesarović; Leonov did not name the third player.
"ML Vitebsk" (since 2021 the club was called "Maxline", as the sponsor is a betting company) finished second in the first league championship in the 2024 season, was promoted to the top league, immediately won it, and will start in the first qualifying round of the Champions League this summer.
Last year, in the Champions League qualification, the country's champion, Minsk "Dynamo," was eliminated in the first round, losing to Bulgarian "Ludogorets," and in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, they lost without a chance to Albanian "Egnatia." Grodno "Neman" reached the playoff qualification of the Conference League, where they lost to Spanish "Rayo Vallecano."
In the 2024-2025 season, Minsk "Dynamo" played in the main round of the Conference League.
Before this, since 2019, Belarusian clubs had not reached the group stage of European cups.
The Belarusian championship will start in March. In the 1/4 finals of the Belarusian Cup, "ML Vitebsk" will play against Brest "Dynamo" on March 8 and 15.
