Italian accidentally threw away 20 gold ingots

Italian police returned gold to a man who accidentally threw it away with household waste. The incident occurred in southern Italy, writes Reuters.

It all started when a local resident came to the police station in the town of Porto Cesareo near Lecce and reported that a box containing 20 gold ingots was missing. Their total value was about 120,000 euros. It later turned out that the man carelessly threw the gold into the trash himself.

Law enforcement quickly tracked the man's movements and reviewed surveillance camera footage. The video showed that the box ended up in a public container on the beach, and then, along with other waste, was transported to a local waste sorting facility.

After several hours of diligent searching, officers found the damaged box. Inside were all 20 gold ingots. The gold was returned to its rightful owner.
