"Met a grandpa from England." A young girl from Gomel has been sending and receiving postcards from other countries for 6 years already
Angelina from Gomel is now 18 years old, and for a third of her life, she has been involved in postcrossing — an unusual hobby that connects people from different countries through paper postcards and sincere handwritten words sent by mail. The publication "Mocnyja Naviny" (Strong News) spoke with Angelina and found out how this hobby began for her.

The girl learned about postcrossing at the age of 12 during the coronavirus pandemic; out of boredom, she was looking for new hobbies. She then watched many YouTube videos related to postcrossing and registered on a special website. In their profiles, people indicate their names, interests, dreams, and tell a little about themselves.
"In 2021, I decided to send my first postcards: the platform gave me several addresses, and I went to the post office for the cards. I filled them out at home — I tried to choose a postcard for each recipient based on their interests and hobbies. In the message, I told a little about myself and wrote warm wishes to the people these postcards were intended for, and sent them," recalls the girl from Gomel.

Soon, the girl received her first postcard from Germany — she almost jumped for joy. That day became truly special for her, and she still remembers it with a smile.
"Along with the postcard, I receive indescribable feelings and emotions. I don't even know how to describe how pleasant it is in the age of phones and social networks to receive a handwritten card from a stranger. I'm always very interested in reading about the hobbies and lives of people from other countries," the teenager said.
Usually, a person does not receive a reply to the letters they send, but once Angelina received a postcard in return. The man told her a little about himself and praised her YouTube channel, which the girl had mentioned in her letter.
"I wrote a letter to a grandpa in England, and soon I received a postcard in reply. It was very pleasant, but this story didn't end there. He started sending me postcards again and again. The Briton told me about his travels, the places he had visited, and the people he had met. The sweetest thing was that he chose postcards with images of those places so that I could see them too. In total, he sent me about 20 letters. Sometimes they were large postcards, sometimes small, and sometimes he simply shared something on a sheet of paper that he sent in an envelope," Angelina shared, expressing her emotions.
The girl always reads a person's account description and chooses postcards based on associations. Over 6 years, she has sent more than 50 postcards, and received approximately the same number, not counting the letters sent to her from England. According to her, there is something unusual about postcrossing. It's an opportunity to touch the life of a stranger — you can learn a story about pets or an unusual bike travel experience, in the finest details.
