Lithuanian conservatives again propose not to issue residence permits to Belarusians
Deputies of the opposition faction "Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats" are again raising the issue of unifying sanctions against citizens of Belarus and Russia. They propose to stop accepting applications for temporary residence permits in Lithuania not only from Russians but also from Belarusians, and also to annul already issued residence permits for those Belarusians who have visited Russia or Belarus more than once per quarter, writes Delfi.lt.

The draft law also proposes to prohibit the import of fuel from Russia and Belarus into Lithuania in truck tanks exceeding 200 liters, to prevent possible violations of EU sanctions and direct or indirect supplies of resources that support the regimes of these countries.
Deputies note that most Belarusians who have temporary residence permits in Lithuania regularly return home, where they allegedly can be recruited or forced to carry out intelligence tasks. Therefore, in their opinion, to ensure Lithuania's national security, it is necessary to unify restrictive measures and assess citizens of Belarus and Russia equally, as both countries act jointly and pose a threat to regional security.
The restriction on issuing residence permits, according to this draft, should apply only to new applications for temporary residence permits; previous recipients will be able to renew them without restrictions. Exceptions are provided only for crews of international freight and passenger transport, as well as for situations objectively beyond human control.
