US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated on CNN that rumors about a possible lifting of sanctions on Russian oil amidst the crisis in the Persian Gulf are not true.

“Russia is not receiving sanctions relief. All oil is on ships and awaiting its turn for unloading in China. This is simply a measure to speed up delivery to refineries — it will go to Indian refineries instead of Chinese ones,” said Chris Wright.
The Secretary also noted that the US is using similar pragmatic measures to overcome several weeks of tension in energy supply, and the administration is focused on the outcome.
He did not support predictions about a possible rise in oil prices to $200 per barrel due to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz.
Wright added that in the future, the US may also decline supplies of enriched uranium from Russia.
Earlier, the US granted India temporary permission to purchase Russian oil: for one month, New Delhi can acquire raw materials that are already loaded onto tankers.
