Ryhor Polazau is ready to dispute the statement that working in a kindergarten is a woman's job.

In 2008, he joined kindergarten No. 4 in Zaslaŭje as a simple educator, and today he heads kindergarten No. 2 and successfully manages a female team. "Prystaličča" visited the unusual head of the kindergarten.
He had no "kindergarten" experience of his own — he was raised at home, and his childhood was spent in Kazan. After school, he and a friend decided to enroll at BSPU. Ryhor chose the specialty of a teacher-psychologist. He began gaining work experience in 2008 at kindergarten No. 4 in Zaslaŭje, where he worked as both an educator and a psychologist.

"I worked for a long time as an educator, a psychologist, but the job of a head teacher... That's a different world. I knew how to educate children, but how the 'kitchen' works, how mountains of reports are written, how economic issues are resolved — that's a huge new layer of knowledge! I had to learn everything from everyone. Fortunately, the team here was strong, well-coordinated, with extensive experience," he says.
The man says that the most difficult thing was the transition from educator's documentation, which comprised 5-7 papers, to a whole stack of documents.
"It's a colossal amount. But when you delve into every detail, into the requirements and norms, you understand: little ones are a special category, and without monitoring and strict rules, it's impossible here," he notes.

"If there's a free moment, in the morning I always go through the groups, greet the children and the staff. The boys tell me their news," says the head.
Despite being the only man in the teaching staff, Ryhor Aliaksandravič does not feel like a "white crow." On the contrary, he is convinced that a male perspective in kindergarten work is necessary for the harmonious development of children: "It's like a father in a family — an example of behavior, so a man is also needed in kindergarten, especially for boys. Today's children are no different from those who grew up long ago and have already become parents themselves. Both dreamed and dream of professions like firefighter, astronaut, or military personnel. That's why we often have guests from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Automobile Inspectorate."
But "male" activities are not the only important ones.
The head believes that the foundation of upbringing is kindness and support: "All children need warmth, hugs, emotional protection. This is not a school, but something in between a home and an educational institution."
