On March 9, 2026, Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach, commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade and Hero of Ukraine, was killed on the eastern front line of combat operations, reported the press service of the Ukrainian Air Force.

Dovhach reportedly died in the afternoon while performing a combat mission under conditions of significant enemy air superiority and strong resistance from enemy air defense systems. The pilot completed his mission but was killed.
Oleksandr Dovhach was a very experienced combat pilot and commander. From the first days of the full-scale invasion, the brigade under his command delivered precise strikes against enemy positions.
During his service, he completed hundreds of combat sorties. During these missions, he targeted enemy command posts, equipment, and communication assets, provided cover for strike and bomber aircraft, and destroyed enemy drones and missiles. Dovhach participated in battles for Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions, as well as for Snake Island. In September 2025, the pilot was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine.
The circumstances of Oleksandr Dovhach's death are currently being investigated.
