USA Prepares New Sanctions Against Russian Oil If Russia Rejects Peace Agreement
The USA is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia's energy sector to increase pressure if Moscow rejects a peace agreement with Ukraine, Bloomberg writes , citing sources.

Measures are being considered against Russia's "shadow fleet" vessels and against traders who facilitate transactions. These plans were discussed by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a meeting with a group of European ambassadors earlier this week.
The US could introduce new sanctions as early as this week — however, the final decision remains with Donald Trump, sources note.
At the same time, Ukraine's Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, reported that four American senators (two Republicans and two Democrats) introduced a bipartisan bill to the Senate called the "Decreasing Russian Oil Profits Act of 2025," which provides for sanctions for buying or facilitating the import of Russian oil and petroleum products. According to her, if the bill is adopted, it will oblige the US President to apply sanctions within 90 days against those who facilitate the import of Russian oil. The list will be compiled by the Treasury Secretary after consultations with the Secretary of State.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is aware of plans to develop new sanctions. "It is well known that such plans exist in a number of offices in Washington. Any sanctions harm the establishment of relations. This is obvious," Peskov said.
