"Manuela Lukashenka". In Germany, a regional leader was insulted by a comparison with the Belarusian dictator
A candidate from the right-populist party "Alternative for Germany" compared the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Lukashenka — "go to Minsk".

Robert Schnell, a candidate from the right-populist party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD), provoked a scandal by calling to send the head of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Minsk. At a party congress, he accused Manuela Schwesig of dictatorial methods in dealing with the opposition and stated that she could become "Minister of Propaganda" under Alexander Lukashenka, BILD reports.
"A Prime Minister who wants to dictate to the opposition how many people are allowed to attend demonstrations should go to Minsk as Minister of Propaganda. I think Lukashenka is still looking for a few people there. Then we won't have to put up with her here anymore," Schnell stated.
The speech was met with applause from party members, after which Schnell received 169 votes out of 250 and was elected to the ninth, electable place on the AfD list.
In total, the AfD is forming a list of 50 candidates in case of a possible rise to power in the region. According to recent polls, the party is polling around 38% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, significantly ahead of Manuela Schwesig's SPD, whose party has governed the federal state for 27 years.
