Belarusian master creates unique wooden mechanical clocks

Belarusian woodcarver Andrey Martynyuk lives in Stankava village, Dzyarzhynsk district, and creates unique mechanical clocks made entirely of wood — without a single metal part, writes Sputnik.

The master showed journalists how he assembles complex mechanisms exclusively from wooden elements, and also demonstrated his other works: various puzzles, astronomical clocks displaying moon phases, compositions with portraits of famous figures, and other movable structures.

The most ambitious work in the master's workshop is a mini-theater covering an entire wall. Puppet figures move inside, and, as Andrey notes, each of them has a real prototype among the residents of his village.

By education, Martynyuk is an electrical engineer. He initially engaged in wood carving for pleasure, but over time this hobby became his life's work. In his craft, the master combined precise engineering and artistic carving.

Before creating each mechanism, Andrey performs very precise calculations, develops a 3D model on the computer, and only then begins work on the machines. All parts are sanded and fitted manually with maximum precision, almost like in jewelry making.
