German government classified information about projects in Belarus, requested by "Alternative for Germany"
The German government refused to disclose information about its projects in Belarus, as well as in Nicaragua and Myanmar, following a request from the far-right party "Alternative for Germany". This information was classified for security reasons, writes the publication "Pozirk".

The German cabinet rejected three parliamentary inquiries submitted by "Alternative for Germany" in December 2025. The inquiries concerned projects undertaken by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Descriptions of these initiatives are absent from both the official website of the department and the international aid transparency system IATI.
Regarding Belarus, two projects are involved with a total funding volume of 720 thousand euros. One of them, the largest, is being implemented from late 2024 to autumn 2027 and aims at developing democratic and inclusive governance, supporting people with disabilities, and ensuring gender equality. The second, smaller in budget, operates from early 2024 to late 2027 and is dedicated to reproductive, maternal, and child health issues.
AfD deputies demanded the disclosure of the project names, their specific activities, and an explanation as to why the information about them is classified, despite being financed from the federal budget.
In response, the German government stated that although Germany is committed to adhering to the principles of international aid transparency, this cannot happen in violation of confidential data protection rules.
The authorities emphasized that a harsh repressive authoritarian regime operates in Belarus, and public disclosure of information could jeopardize the safety of civil society representatives, local NGOs, and their partners — including German ones.
According to the government, making such information public could lead to the destruction of independent organizations and create a real danger to the life, freedom, and legal protection of people involved in the implementation of the projects.
The party "Alternative for Germany" has repeatedly, under the guise of protecting national interests, sent similar inquiries regarding support for Belarusian democratic initiatives. Critics of the party claim that such inquiries resemble the methods of intelligence services in their style.
Earlier, Belarusian state media reported on searches in independent regional media outlets that cooperated with the German embassy. In addition, the case regarding the use of Belarusian political prisoners' labor by a company linked to AfD deputy Jörg Dornau in Saxony caused widespread resonance.
